What is Boiogito (Bōiōgitō)?
Boiogito is a traditional herbal medicine (Kampo) that helps remove excess body fluid (water retention) and regulates perspiration. It is considered suitable for individuals with a pale complexion, a plump physique, who tend to sweat easily, tire easily, and accumulate fluid in their joints (kyo-sho or water retention type). This formula is described in the classic Chinese medical text "Jinkui Yaolue" and has been used in Japan for a long time.
Unusually for a medication used for dieting, "obesity (so-called water retention type with loose muscles)" and swelling are approved indications and effects for this medical Kampo formulation. If it suits your constitution, it can be an easy option to continue.
Recommended for those who:

Boiogito is not a medication that directly reduces body fat. It works by expelling excess fluid, leading to a reduction in swelling and a corresponding change in weight and appearance. Kampo's role differs from medications that directly affect appetite or the absorption of sugars and lipids. Because it approaches by correcting constitutional imbalances, its effects are gentle and characterized by minimal burden on the body.

How to take
- Take the daily dose in 2-3 divided doses, before meals or between meals (on an empty stomach).
- The doctor will adjust the dosage according to your constitution and condition.
- If you miss a dose, do not take two doses together; resume the usual schedule from the next dose.
- For swelling countermeasures, combining with lifestyle adjustments such as reducing salt intake and avoiding prolonged sitting or standing will likely yield more noticeable changes.
About side effects
Boiogito contains 1.5g of Glycyrrhiza (licorice root) per daily dose, and long-term, high-dose administration carries a risk of pseudoaldosteronism.

Caution with concomitant use of licorice-containing medications
Concomitant use with the following medications increases the risk of pseudoaldosteronism and hypokalemia. Please be sure to inform us during your medical interview about any medications, Kampo, or supplements you are currently taking.
- Kampo medications containing licorice (e.g., Shakuyaku-kanzo-to, Hochu-ekki-to, Yokkan-san, Kakkon-to)
- Preparations containing glycyrrhizin (e.g., liver function improvers, some gastrointestinal medications)
- Diuretics (may further lower serum potassium)
