At Mona Aoyama Clinic, we will inquire about your destination, duration, and travel style (urban/rural, short-term/long-term) and propose a combination of necessary vaccines and a schedule.

* About Yellow Fever Vaccine

The yellow fever vaccine can only be administered at designated institutions such as quarantine stations in Japan, and not at general medical institutions. Some countries in Africa and Central/South America require a vaccination certificate (yellow card) for entry.

While our clinic cannot administer the yellow fever vaccine, we offer pre-travel consultations that include determining if vaccination is necessary, providing information on quarantine stations, and coordinating schedules with other travel vaccines. Please also consult us regarding the adjustment of vaccination intervals between yellow fever (live vaccine) and other vaccines.

Approximate Pre-travel Schedule

  • Since some vaccines require multiple doses (Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Rabies, etc.), it is ideal to consult us 2-3 months before your departure.

  • Even if your departure is approaching, we will prioritize and create a vaccination plan to the extent possible, so please do not hesitate to consult us.

Vaccination Process

  3. Doctor's Examination and Vaccination
  4. 15-30 Minute Observation in the Clinic after Vaccination—To prepare for any allergic reactions.
  5. Issuance of Certificate (Japanese/English, if necessary)

Post-Vaccination Precautions and Side Effects

  • On the day of vaccination, avoid strenuous exercise and excessive alcohol consumption (showering/bathing is allowed).

  • Redness, swelling, pain at the injection site, and mild fever usually subside within 1-2 days.

  • If you experience severe symptoms such as high fever, difficulty breathing, or widespread hives, seek medical attention immediately.

Those Who Cannot Be Vaccinated or Require Caution

  • Those with a fever or acute illness (please discuss postponement).

  • Those with a history of severe allergies to vaccine components.

  • Pregnant individuals—live vaccines (MR, chickenpox, mumps, etc.) cannot be administered. Please consult us individually for inactivated vaccines.

  • Those undergoing treatment that suppresses the immune system—live vaccines cannot be administered.

Q Do I need a reservation?
A

To ensure vaccine availability, we recommend making an appointment online in advance. If you have a specific vaccine in mind, please let us know when you make your reservation.

Q Can I receive multiple vaccines on the same day?
A

In principle, co-administration is possible (injections are given at different sites). If you are short on time before your trip, please consult us as co-administration can shorten your schedule.

Q Can I get an English vaccination certificate?
A

This can be issued (for an additional fee). If you have a specific format required by your study abroad program or overseas assignment, please bring it with you when you visit our clinic.

Q Can I use public funds or local government subsidies?
A

Vaccinations at our clinic are self-paid (not covered by insurance). If you wish to receive regular vaccinations or public subsidies, please check with the medical institutions designated by your local municipality.

Q Can I get a yellow fever vaccination?
A

As the yellow fever vaccine can only be administered in Japan at designated institutions such as quarantine stations, it is not available at our clinic. We can, however, provide consultation regarding the necessity of vaccination, direct you to a quarantine station, and help you coordinate a schedule with other travel vaccines.

Q Some vaccines require multiple doses, so ideally you should consult us 2 to 3 months before your departure. Even if your departure is imminent, we can propose a prioritized vaccination plan, so please consult us first.

How far in advance of international travel should I consult with you?

Q Can I bathe or exercise on the day of vaccination?
A

Showering and bathing are fine. Please refrain from strenuous exercise and excessive alcohol consumption on the day of vaccination. Do not rub the injection site vigorously.

Can I get vaccinated if I have a cold?

If you have a fever of 37.5°C or higher or are feeling very unwell, it is safer to postpone vaccination. If you only have a slight runny nose, you can often still get vaccinated, so please consult with the doctor on the day of your appointment.

I don't know what vaccines I've had in the past.

Please bring your Maternal and Child Health Handbook or vaccination certificate if you have them. If you are unsure, we can plan your vaccination schedule after checking for immunity with an antibody test.
