Doxycycline Post-Exposure Prophylaxis (Doxy-PEP) is a method of preventing sexually transmitted infections (STIs) such as syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea by taking doxycycline after sexual activity.

By taking it within 72 hours of sexual activity, it has been reported to reduce the risk of infection by:

・Syphilis: approximately 87%
・Chlamydia: approximately 88%
・Gonorrhea: approximately 55%

Doxy-PEP is not a drug that prevents HIV. If there is a risk of HIV infection, please consider combining it with PEP.

 

Recommended for:

・Those who had sex without a condom

・Those concerned about the risk of STIs

・Those who do not know their partner's infection status

・Those who want to prevent STIs in addition to PEP

 

Since the preventive effect decreases over time, we recommend taking it as soon as possible after sexual activity (preferably within 24 hours, and no later than 72 hours).

用法・用量

Take 200mg (two 100mg tablets) as a single dose within 72 hours after sexual intercourse.
It is recommended to take it within 24 hours if possible.
Take with a glass of water and do not lie down for about 30 minutes after taking it.
If you are taking PEP, take Doxy-PEP approximately 2 hours after your PEP dose.

When should I drink it?

Take it within 72 hours after sexual intercourse. We recommend taking it within 24 hours if possible.

Can I drink it every day?

The basic regimen is one dose after intercourse. Even if you have frequent intercourse, daily use is not recommended, and you should consult a doctor due to the risk of drug-resistant bacteria.

What if I had sex multiple times on the same day?

If you have sex multiple times on the same day, one dose is sufficient. However, please wait at least 24 hours since your last dose.

Is it okay to drink alcohol?

Although alcohol does not reduce the effectiveness of the medication, it may intensify side effects such as nausea. It is recommended to avoid alcohol consumption as much as possible.

Does taking Doxy-PEP prevent STIs 100%?

While DoxyPEP has been reported to reduce the risk of syphilis, chlamydia, and gonorrhea, it does not prevent 100% of infections. Also, since it does not prevent HIV or other STIs, we recommend using condoms and getting regular check-ups.
