After-the-fact pills (emergency contraception) are medications taken to prevent pregnancy when contraception was not used or failed.

They are expected to prevent pregnancy by delaying or suppressing ovulation.

We offer the following two types at our clinic:

Ella (120-hour type)

This emergency contraceptive can be taken within 120 hours (5 days) after sexual intercourse. It is chosen when a longer time has passed due to its extended administration window.

Madonna (72-hour type)

This emergency contraceptive should be taken within 72 hours (3 days) after sexual intercourse. Taking it as early as possible can lead to a higher contraceptive effect.

*For both types, the contraceptive effect decreases as time passes, so we recommend taking them as soon as possible.

Ella (120-hour type)
Take 1 tablet within 120 hours after sexual intercourse.

Madonna (72-hour type)
Take 2 tablets at once within 72 hours after sexual intercourse.

In both cases, the contraceptive effect decreases as time passes, so take them as soon as possible.

If you vomit within 3 hours after taking the medication, it may not have been fully absorbed. You may need to take an additional dose, so please contact our clinic immediately.

・Continue to use contraception such as condoms until your next menstrual period, even after taking the pill.
・We recommend taking a pregnancy test approximately three weeks after taking the pill.
・If your period is delayed by more than one week from the expected date, consider taking a pregnancy test or consulting a medical institution.
・The morning-after pill does not prevent sexually transmitted infections.
