PEP - 99% HIV prevention when taken after sex

PEP (post-exposure prophylaxis) is a treatment that prevents HIV infection by taking medication after potential exposure to HIV, such as through sexual activity or needle-stick injuries.

It should be started within 72 hours (ideally within 24 hours) of exposure and continued for 28 days.

Begin taking the medication within 72 hours of HIV exposure (preferably within 24 hours).

Take it once a day for 28 consecutive days as directed by your doctor.

It is important to complete the full 28-day course, as missed doses or self-discontinuation may reduce its preventative effect.
