Valtrex Tablets 500mg (Generic name: Valacyclovir Hydrochloride)

Indications

  • Herpes Simplex (e.g., cold sores, genital herpes)

Calonal Tablets (Generic name: Acetaminophen)

Indications

  • Pain relief for various diseases (e.g., headache, lower back pain, toothache, menstrual pain, traumatic pain, post-extraction pain)

Valtrex Tablets 500mg (Generic name: Valacyclovir hydrochloride)

  • 500mg three times daily for 7 days

Calonal

  • 300mg three times daily for 7 days

Valtrex / Valacyclovir

  • Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the ingredients of this drug (valacyclovir, acyclovir)
  • Patients with renal dysfunction (dose adjustment according to renal function is essential due to renal excretion. Psychiatric/neurological symptoms [confusion, hallucinations, etc.] and TTP/HUS-like symptoms have been reported with high doses.)
  • Elderly patients (often accompanied by decreased renal function)
    Patients with dehydration

Calonal

  • Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the ingredients of this drug
  • Patients with peptic ulcers (in severe cases; although the risk is lower than with NSAIDs, it is mentioned in the package insert)
  • Patients with severe blood disorders
  • Patients with severe hepatic dysfunction
  • Patients with severe renal dysfunction
  • Patients with severe cardiac insufficiency
  • Patients with a history of aspirin asthma (induction of asthmatic attacks by non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)

Is shingles contagious?

Shingles itself is not contagious. However, it can be transmitted as chickenpox to people who have not had chickenpox before (especially infants and pregnant women). Cover the affected area and avoid contact until the blisters scab over.

It's been more than three days since the rash appeared. Is it too late for treatment?

Ideally, treatment should begin within 72 hours, but it can still be effective even after that. Antiviral drugs are especially effective as long as new blisters continue to appear, so please consult us without giving up.

May I take a bath?

Bathing is possible. It is important to keep the affected area clean, but avoid hot water and long baths, and do not rub or burst blisters.

Should I take time off work?

Because shingles is also a sign of a weakened immune system, resting as much as possible will speed up your recovery. During periods of severe pain, do not overexert yourself. If you work in a position where you interact with people who have not had chickenpox or pregnant women, please consult with your workplace about how you will work until the scabs form.

Does shingles recur?

Many people only get it once in their lifetime, but it can recur due to a weakened immune system. For those aged 50 and over, vaccination is an option for prevention, including preventing recurrence in those who have had it before.
