Valtrex 500mg tablets (generic name: valaciclovir hydrochloride)

Indications

• Herpes simplex (e.g., cold sores, genital herpes)
• Herpes zoster (shingles)
• Varicella (chickenpox) (granules are often used for varicella instead of tablets)
• Suppression of herpes simplex onset in hematopoietic stem cell transplantation
• Suppression of recurrent genital herpes (in cases of repeated primary infection and recurrence)

Herpes Simplex

• 500 mg twice daily for 5 days

③Herpes Zoster

• 1,000 mg three times daily for 7 days

Gastrointestinal symptoms: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain

Psychiatric and neurological symptoms: Headache, dizziness

Liver function: Increased AST and ALT

Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to the ingredients of this drug (valaciclovir, acyclovir)

Although the only clear contraindication in the package insert is the above, the following are important as "precautions":

Patients with renal impairment (dose adjustment according to renal function is essential due to renal excretion. There have been reports of neuropsychiatric symptoms [confusion, hallucinations, etc.] and TTP/HUS-like symptoms with high-dose administration.)
Elderly patients (often accompanied by decreased renal function)
Dehydrated patients
