PEP FAQ

What is PEP?

PEP (Post-Exposure Prophylaxis) is a way to prevent HIV infection after potential exposure. Take one pill once a day at the same time for 28 consecutive days. We recommend getting tested 1 month, 3 months, and 6 months after starting PEP. After 28 days, you can start PrEP (Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis) for HIV prevention.

How effective is PEP?

It is said that if taken within 72 hours of sexual intercourse and administered correctly, the prevention rate is over 99%.

Are there any side effects of PEP?

You may experience headaches, nausea, or abdominal bloating (around 2%). These are usually mild and disappear within about a month. However, if the side effects are severe or bothersome, please consult a doctor. If you experience fever, fatigue, or flu-like symptoms, it's possible this is not a side effect but rather a recent HIV infection, so please consult a doctor as soon as possible.

Are tests for HIV, hepatitis B, etc. included?

The above plan does not include inspections. We can introduce you to free inspections or provide inexpensive, simple test kits, so please let us know if you are interested.

Does PEP prevent anything other than HIV?

It does not prevent anything other than HIV. For the prevention of syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia, please use DoxyPEP.
