What is Chlamydia?
Chlamydia (Chlamydia trachomatis) is one of the most common sexually transmitted infections in Japan. Many infected individuals are asymptomatic and tend to leave it untreated, risking further spread to their partners without realizing it.
Main Symptoms
- Discharge from urethra/vagina
- Urinary discomfort/pain
- Lower abdominal pain, irregular bleeding (women)
- Often asymptomatic
What is Gonorrhea?
Gonorrhea (Neisseria gonorrhoeae) is a sexually transmitted infection caused by gonococci, characterized by relatively strong symptoms. In recent years, antibiotic-resistant gonorrhea has also become a problem.
Main Symptoms
- Severe pain/burning sensation during urination
- Purulent discharge from urethra/vagina
- Untreated, it can cause epididymitis and infertility
What is Genital Herpes?
Genital herpes (Herpes simplex virus: HSV) is a sexually transmitted infection caused by the herpes simplex virus. Once infected, the virus remains latent in the body and tends to recur when immunity is weakened.
Main Symptoms
- Blisters/ulcers around genitals and anus
- Severe pain, itching, burning sensation
- Pain during urination
- Fever, malaise (common during initial infection)
About Recurrence
After initial infection, the virus remains latent in the nerve ganglia. It can recur due to fatigue, stress, weakened immunity, etc. Symptoms during recurrence are often milder than the initial infection, but antiviral drugs can alleviate symptoms early.
What is Candidiasis?
Candidiasis (Candida albicans) occurs when fungi (yeast) normally present in the body overgrow. Although it is a sexually transmitted infection, it can also develop without sexual activity due to weakened immunity or antibiotic use.
Main Symptoms
In women
- White, cottage cheese-like discharge
- Severe itching and redness of the vulva and vagina
- Pain during urination and intercourse
In men
- Itching and redness of the glans penis and foreskin

- Often asymptomatic
What is Trichomoniasis?
Trichomoniasis (Trichomonas vaginalis) is a sexually transmitted infection caused by a protozoan. It is primarily transmitted through sexual activity but can also be transmitted via towels, bathtubs, etc.
Main Symptoms
In women
- Yellow-green, frothy discharge with a foul odor
- Itching and burning sensation of the vulva

In men

Condyloma is a sexually transmitted infection caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus), resulting in wart-like lesions around the genitals and anus.

What is Syphilis?
Syphilis (Treponema pallidum) is a sexually transmitted infection that has been rapidly increasing in Japan recently. Symptoms appear and disappear repeatedly as the infection progresses, and if left untreated, it can lead to serious systemic damage.
Stages of Syphilis Progression
