What are Hyperhidrosis and Body Odor?
What is Hyperhidrosis?
Hyperhidrosis is a condition where a person sweats excessively, beyond what is needed for body temperature regulation. This can occur regardless of mental stress or heat, and can interfere with daily life, work, and relationships.
Main Symptoms of Hyperhidrosis
- Excessive sweating in armpits, palms, and soles of feet
- Uncontrollable sweating even when not anxious
- Clothing gets wet from sweat, causing concern
- Troubled by hand and underarm sweat in front of others
Types of Hyperhidrosis
| Type | Characteristics |
|---|---|
| Primary Focal Hyperhidrosis | Excessive sweating in specific areas (armpits, hands, feet, etc.). Often idiopathic. |
| Secondary Hyperhidrosis | Caused by other medical conditions (e.g., hyperthyroidism) or medication side effects. |
| Generalized Hyperhidrosis | Excessive sweating over the entire body. Requires investigation into internal medical causes. |
What is Body Odor?
Body odor (axillary osmidrosis) is a condition where a distinctive smell is produced when sweat secreted from the apocrine glands in the armpits is broken down by resident skin bacteria. It often co-occurs with hyperhidrosis, and the more sweat there is, the stronger the odor tends to be.
Consult Us If Any of These Apply
- You choose clothes based on armpit sweat and odor
- You feel anxious getting close to people
- Over-the-counter deodorants don't seem effective
- You are bothered by severe hand and foot sweat
What is Perspirex?
Perspirex is a medical-grade deodorant from Denmark. Its active ingredient, aluminum chloride, reacts with moisture in the sweat glands, forming a keratin plug deep within the sweat gland to physically inhibit sweating.
Unlike over-the-counter deodorants that mask sweat and odor, Perspirex "caps" the sweat glands to suppress sweating itself, making its effects long-lasting.
Three Types of Perspirex
| Type | Characteristics | Recommended for |
|---|---|---|
| Original | Standard strength. For first-time users. | Those concerned about sweat/odor, first-time Perspirex users |
| Strong | More powerful sweat inhibition. | Those for whom Original was insufficient, those with severe hyperhidrosis symptoms |
| Comfort | Low-irritation formula for sensitive skin. | Those with sensitive skin who found Original irritating |
Targeted Areas
- Armpits (axillary hyperhidrosis, body odor)
- Palms (palmar hyperhidrosis)
- Soles of feet (plantar hyperhidrosis)
How to Use/Administer
Basic Usage
- Before bed, apply Perspirex to the area where you want to suppress sweat.
- Allow the applied area to dry completely before dressing.
- The next morning, wipe the applied area with a sweat-absorbing sheet or damp towel (no need to reapply).
Usage Schedule Until Effects Appear
| Period | Frequency of Use |
|---|---|
| Until effects appear (approx. 1 week) | Apply every night |
| Once effects start appearing | 2-3 times a week |
| For sensitive skin (2 weeks) | Apply every other day |
Applying before bedtime is most effective because sweat gland activity decreases at night.
If Perspirex Does Not Seem to Work
If you feel that "Perspirex is not working," the following reasons may apply:
If the Cause is Usage Method
- Sweating before application (sweat glands are open, making it difficult to form keratin plugs) → Apply after sweating has subsided after bathing or showering
- Insufficient application amount → Apply thoroughly, not just thinly and evenly
- Not applying every night → It is important to continue every night until effects appear
- Dressing immediately after application → Dress after it has completely dried
If the Type is Not Suitable
If the Original is not effective enough, please consider switching to Strong. You can consult us during your examination.
If Hyperhidrosis is Severe
For severe hyperhidrosis that is difficult to manage with Perspirex, other treatment options such as Botox injections (covered by insurance) are available. Please feel free to consult us.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. How long does it take for Perspirex to take effect?
A. Many people experience effects within about a week if applied every night. Once effects begin, application 2-3 times a week can maintain them.
Q2. What should I do if it doesn't work?
A. Please check if your skin is dry before application, if you are applying it before bed, and if you are applying it every night consistently. If the Original is not effective enough, you may consider switching to Strong. Please consult us for more details.
Q3. Is it effective for body odor?
A. Yes, by suppressing sweating, it is expected to reduce body odor. However, it does not directly act on the apocrine glands themselves, so severe body odor may require other treatments.
Q4. How do I choose between Original, Strong, and Comfort?
A. We recommend Original for first-time users. If Original is not effective enough, Strong is suitable. Comfort is recommended for those with sensitive skin. You can also consult us during your examination.
Q5. Do I need to use it every day?
A. Daily application is necessary for about one week until effects appear. Once effects begin, application 2-3 times a week can maintain them.
Q6. How much does it cost?
A. It is a self-pay treatment and is not covered by insurance. For more details, please check the pricing page.
