DoxyPEP has been reported to be approximately 87% effective in preventing syphilis, 88% effective in preventing chlamydia, and 55% effective in preventing gonorrhea. Additionally, no resistance to DoxyPEP has been reported in studies lasting one year (as of April 2024).

Established safety medicines

This is an antibacterial agent developed by Pfizer. It has a long history, and reports of side effects are rare. The main side effects are gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting.

How should I take DoxyPEP?

Take a single 200 mg dose of Doxy-PEP as soon as possible, within 72 hours of condomless sex. Take with a full glass of water and do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking.

How effective is doxyPEP?

If taken within 72 hours of intercourse and administered correctly, the prevention rate is said to be over 99%.

Are there any side effects of DoxyPEP?

Gastrointestinal symptoms, photosensitivity (individuals with fair skin or living in sunny climates are advised to use sunscreen), allergic reactions/rashes, antibodies due to short-term antibiotic use, and very rarely, headaches or changes in vision (changes in hearing or vision are not side effects but may be symptoms of syphilis, so if you experience such symptoms, seek immediate medical attention) have been reported.

Is there drug resistance to DoxyPEP?

In patients followed for approximately one year by researchers, there is no concerning data to suggest that the use of Doxy-PEP increases drug resistance.

Does DoxyPEP prevent anything other than HIV?

It does not prevent syphilis, gonorrhea, or chlamydia. For HIV prevention, please use PEP/PrEP.

Does DoxyPEP work for women?

We believe that doxy-PEP can be an effective STI prevention measure. While studies in Kenya did not show a significant preventative effect due to issues with medication adherence and region-specific gonorrhea resistance, some effectiveness against chlamydia was observed. Academic societies also indicate no gender difference in drug efficacy, and since gonorrhea resistance is lower in Japan than in Kenya, and high effectiveness can be expected with proper medication guidance, we believe that doxy-PEP is effective for Japanese women.
