Frequently Asked Questions

PrEP FAQs

What is PrEP?

PrEP is a method to prevent HIV infection in advance. There are two ways to take it: "Daily PrEP," which involves taking it once a day, and "On-Demand PrEP (2-1-1 regimen)," which involves taking it around the time of sexual activity. While you can choose the method that suits your lifestyle, in either case, it is recommended to continue under the guidance of a doctor and undergo regular testing.

How effective is PrEP?

When taken correctly, HIV prevention is said to be over 99% effective. Forgetting to take the medication reduces its effectiveness, so consistent use is important.

Are there any side effects of PrEP?

You may experience headaches, nausea, and abdominal bloating (around 2%). These are usually mild and disappear within about a month. However, if the side effects are severe or concerning, please consult a doctor. If you experience fever, fatigue, or flu-like symptoms (influenza-like symptoms), please consult a doctor promptly as this may indicate a recent HIV infection rather than a side effect.

Are tests for HIV, hepatitis B, etc. included?

The plans mentioned above do not include any inspections. Please let us know if you would like us to introduce you to free inspections or provide you with inexpensive, simple inspection kits.

Does PrEP prevent anything other than HIV?

It does not protect against anything other than HIV. For the prevention of syphilis, gonorrhea, and chlamydia, please use DoxyPEP.
